Seriously, I have no idea why some people think cats are incapable of doing this kind of thing, or that they invariably "don't have the personality for it". Maybe that viewpoint is getting less common than it used to be, but still. This is easy stuff for Shadow.
I almost feel kind of weird doing stuff like this as I really don't want to...patronize him or anything, but the thing with him is that he seems to really enjoy this sort of "trick". It's a fun game for him, as he really enjoys communicating reciprocally (both with humans and with other cats) and he just seems so pleased with himself when he gets the treat!
(Also note Happy Tail-In-The-Air when I offer him another piece of chicken!)
